Historical context & other notes

From the main release

George Martin considered to give a record the name Off The Beatle Track but changed his mind after the success of "Please Please Me" song. As a matter of fact, album itself was rush-released by Parlophone on 22nd March, 1963 to capitalise on the enormous success of the title track which had been the group's second single and their first no. 1 in the majority of UK charts. Please Please Me stayed there for about 30 weeks.

The material for the Beatles' debut was recorded on February 11, 1963 during one day session while John was suffering from a cold and had a sore throat. Martin initially considered recording the album live at the Cavern in front of the group's home audience and visited the Liverpool club on 9 December 1962 to look into the technicalities. However, due to time constraints, he eventually decided to record the band at EMI Studios instead.
