Płyta Band On The Run została nagrana w EMI Studios w Lagos (Nigeria) i ARC Studios w Ikeja (Nigeria) w okresie od 1 do 22 września 1973 r. oraz w Trident Studios i AIR Studios w Londynie w październiku 1973 r.
Utwór „Helen Wheels”, będący częścią tego samego materiału, nie znalazł się na oryginalnym brytyjskim wydaniu albumu. Jednak Capitol Records przekonało McCartneya do umieszczenia go na wydaniu amerykańskim.
