Historical context & other notes
From the main release
According to Yoko Ono, matrix number suffixed with "1N" indicates "Ringo on drums and no tambourine" version.
On September 11, 1962, the Beatles recorded “Love Me Do”, “P.S. I Love You” and “Please Please Me”, which features Paul on lead vocal and bass, supported by John and George on backing vocals and guitars. By George Martin wish, Andy White, the drummer of the studio, played the drums on that session and Ringo played just tambourine and maracas. That version made it Please Please Me album but on the first pressings of the single Parlophone used the version of “Love Me Do” with Ringo’s drumming recorded a month earlier, on September 4.
