Why this pressing matters
The song "The Ballad of John and Yoko" was removed from the Spanish release of the Hey Jude compilation (released in Spain as The Beatles Again) due to state censorship. The lyrics contain the line "You can get married in Gibraltar, near Spain", which was highly provocative at the time when the Spanish government was actively contesting the Britain's ownership of Gibraltar.
Historical context & other notes
From the main release
Hey Jude is a compilation album composed of tracks from the A- and B-sides of The Beatles' singles released throughout their career. Originally titled The Beatles Again, the name was changed shortly before its release, likely to boost sales through the recognizability of "Hey Jude." Additionally, "Hey Jude," known from the mono single version, was intended to be released in stereo on this album and serve as a promotional vehicle. However, many collectors bought Hey Jude for the song "Rain," recorded during the Revolver sessions but released only as the B-side of the "Paperback Writer" single.
