A song about a girl’s funeral from the perspective of her lover, featuring a sitar-based riff and a very dark, unsettling tone. The song was released as a single on May 6, 1966, and promoted the American version of the band’s album titled Aftermath. For some reason, it did not appear on the British version of that album. Although many would likely point to "Angie" or "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," for me, "Pain It, Black" is one of the two best, most unforgettable songs by the Stones.
The song has been included in the repertoires of artists such as Omega, Deep Purple, Saxon, and U2. A cover of the song was also featured in the HBO series “Westworld.”
